On Wednesday, March 9, 2022, over 400 individuals gathered together – from their respective homes, offices and the like – to tune in for YWCA Central Carolinas’ We Believe 2022 event. In the weeks that followed, YWCA’s team continued to feel the support and love from our community in celebrating our mission and programs.
For our We Believe 2022 event, our virtual platform, Swell, allowed supporters from all over the country to attend our fundraiser – individuals from 3 countries tuned in to watch our event!
Our We Believe 2022 programs highlighted the impact of our mission, featuring staff testimonials, a success story from Dominique Small, a Families Together graduate, and a keynote delivered by Justin Perry, MSW, LCSW, LCAS.
Justin Perry’s speech perfectly captured the intersectional nature of YWCA Central Carolinas’ work. Citing Kimberlé Crenshaw’s term, Perry talked about how the traumas of Black women have often ‘taken a back seat’ to those of Black men. He talked about the importance of acknowledging the racism, misogyny and mistreatment of Black women, Black men and Black people as a step toward reconciling injustices and working toward equity throughout our community and nation.
YWCA Central Carolinas is grateful for the support we’ve received from the community in our We Believe 2022 campaign, and it’s not too late to participate!
During the event, we were thrilled to announce an incredible matching gift challenge we received! Inspired by YWCA’s leadership in creating affordable housing opportunities and steadfast commitment to advancing racial equity, an anonymous couple has committed $25,000 to YWCA as a challenge for We Believe. Their pledge is a challenge match for YWCA to raise $25,000 in new or increased donations through the event!
Our We Believe campaign continues until March 23, so there’s still time to give to support the event and to spread the word about our campaign and the incredible matching gift challenge we’ve received.
You can revisit our We Believe 2022 program any time!
Thank you to the team at Wonderworld for their incredible work creating our event videos, producing the livestream and ensuring everyone’s safety in their West End Studio space.
And thank you to all of our We Believe 2022 event sponsors for supporting YWCA’s mission and programs.
