YWCA's Annual We Believe Event
At YWCA Central Carolinas, we believe in eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
YWCA’s annual We Believe event is our single biggest fundraiser each year, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support all of YWCA’s programs, including transitional housing programs for women and children facing homelessness, out-of-school literacy programs for children in low-income households, and racial justice programs that educate and mobilize our community. Last year, more than 600 people attended our We Believe event. In 2021, we are excited to offer an all-virtual live event, open to the general public.
YWCA’s 2021 Guest Speaker
Dr. Felicia Baiden is an assistant professor of clinical practice in the Tift College of Education at Mercer University. Prior to joining the Mercer faculty in 2016, she served as an elementary school teacher for eight years and was recognized as 2012 Teacher of the Year at Cary Reynolds Elementary School.
Dr. Baiden is most passionate about supporting teachers with cultivating an equitable learning environment where all students’ cultures and ideas are recognized, valued and affirmed. Dr. Baiden’s research interests include: professional learning communities, teaching for social justice and equity, multicultural children’s literature, and critical literacy. In addition to service to the university and college, Dr. Baiden has served the education community locally and globally. She facilitated social justice-driven professional learning communities for P-12 educators across school districts.
