YWCA Central Carolinas supports the Charlotte community in a multitude of ways. YWCA educates neighbors on local issues that people of color face every day through racial justice forms, and empowers fitness members of the co-ed gym in their wellness journeys through dynamic group exercise classes as well as monthly wellness seminars. But YWCA’s most impact lies within the philanthropic programs that are made possible thanks to supporters!
Programs like YWCA’s Women In Transition (WIT) program, which provides safe, affordable housing to single, unaccompanied women that are seeking permanent housing; or YWCA’s Families Together (FT) program which provides housing to families of three or more. Both programs provide participants with a case manager that works with them, one on one, to outline short-and long-term goals, as well as connect them to local resources that they need. YWCA’s other impactful program is found in the 8 Youth Learning Centers throughout Mecklenburg and Union Counties, provides over 250 students, grades K-5, with literacy support to help them thrive in and out of the classroom.
As the year comes to a close, YWCA looks back on the success of our programs. We reflect on the 76% of WIT participants that successfully graduated into permanent housing, and the 90% that remained 6 months after graduating. Or the 83% of FT participants that graduated into permanent housing. Or even how at the start of the 2018-2019 school, only 26% of our students were at reading level, but after on hands support and work with i-Ready, 51% were at reading level by the end of the school year!
You can support our participants and our programs, and one way is by donating items that our participants and Centers will always be in need of. Things like pillows, twin bed sheets, bed-in-bags, mattress pads, towel sets, kitchenware, school supplies, headphones, bean bags chairs, or even rugs. You can see all of our programs’ needs on our wish list, and other ways you can support YWCA on our site!
