Current Special Programs:

Self-Defense Classes

Learn the basic fundamentals of self-defense including combative strikes, defense tactics, crime prevention and dynamic responses to common street attacks. Krav Maga teaches students to defend themselves against hostile actions, to avoid injury and to quickly overcome their assailant. This class is led by Christopher Kellogg of Krav Maga South Park. This class is free to YWCA Members and YWCA Staff. 
 
When: The first Thursday of each month at 5:30pm (next class meets April 2)
Where: Multipurpose Room
Rate: Free for YWCA Members and YWCA Staff

Health Talk: Myths of Aging

Myths about aging often drive ageist attitudes – but the reality is, we all age. This presentation will discuss the aging process both internal and external and why a more positive attitude toward aging helps us age well.
 
When: May 14, from 12pm – 1pm
Where: YWCA Central Carolinas Board Room

Health Seminar: Pelvic Health 101

It’s time to get more acquainted with your pelvic floor!  The muscles in this region do so much for us!  When strong and coordinating well with the rest of your core muscles, they give us stability when we exercise, help us with bowel and bladder control, give our organs support, and help intimacy be more fun! 

Join us for an educational health seminar with Ana Karim, a pelvic physical therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience, and Starr Gargiullo, YWCA’s Director of Fitness with 22 years of wellness and clinical exercise experience, to learn more about the pelvic floor and to gain tools for improving pelvic floor muscle function.  This seminar will have a great mix of information and practical application!

When: May 30, from 12pm – 1pm

Master Your Swim

This adult swim program is designed as a fun swim team style workout for all levels of swimmers 18 years old and up! Prerequisite includes swimming 100 yards of continuous freestyle.

Starts: April 21
Ends: June 2
Meets: Tuesdays at 6:30pm
Where: YWCA Central Carolinas Indoor Pool
Rates: Register for the entire series for $85, or drop in for a single class for $15

YDub Tri Club Short Distance Triathlon Training

Coaches will teach you everything you need to know to get you to the finish line of your next tri. Cycle inside, swim in an indoor, heated pool and run local neighborhood routes.

Starts: April 21
Ends: June 4
Meets: Tuesdays at 6:30pm for Swim/Cycle | Thursdays at 6:30pm for Strength/Run | Saturdays at 8am for Cycle/Run
*Saturday June 6 is the Latta Enduro triathlon (this is optional), no group team practice will take place on 6/6/2020
The Ramblin’ Rose South Charlotte is on June 14 (this is optional)
Where: YWCA Central Carolinas, Industrial Strength Fitness & Outdoors
Rates: $200 for YWCA Members | $225 for Non-Members

Fit For Summer Bootcamp

Build strength, increase endurance, have fun, and get ‘Fit for Summer’ with Coach Franky! Sleds, ropes, tires, sandbags, kettlebells, rowers, and good ol’ fashion bodyweight workouts will be utilized! All fitness levels welcome! 

Starts: April 23
Ends: June 4
Meets: Thursdays at 6:30pm 
Where: Industrial Strength Fitness Gym (located at YWCA Central Carolinas)
Rates: Register for the entire series for $85, or drop in for a single class of $15

YDub Tri Club

YWCA's YDub-tri-club team

Have you ever wanted to compete in a triathlon? From first timers to experienced competitors, we offer seasonal group and 1:1 trainings. Led by certified USAT Coach Jody Frazier and her team of coaches, you’ll be led step-by-step through swimming, biking and running drills over a multi-week period. Build friendships with your fellow athletes and feel the pride of crossing the finish line. The session includes a practice triathlon, preview of the race course and an abundance of support from your fellow YDubbers. Check this page seasonally for training and fee information.
