Current Special Programs:

Self-Defense Classes

Learn the basic fundamentals of self-defense including combative strikes, defense tactics, crime prevention and dynamic responses to common street attacks. Krav Maga teaches students to defend themselves against hostile actions, to avoid injury and to quickly overcome their assailant. This class is led by Christopher Kellogg of Krav Maga South Park. This class is free to YWCA Members and YWCA Staff. 
 
When: The first Thursday of each month at 5:30pm (December 5, January 2, February 6, March 5, April 2)
Where: Multipurpose Room
Rate: Free for YWCA Members and YWCA Staff

Mental Health First Aid

We seek help for physical ailments. Why not for our mental health? Join two experts from Atrium Health that will help us learn to identify, understand and respond to the symptoms of mental illness either in ourselves, or someone else we care about. This program is ideal for anyone that works or interacts with adults on a daily basis.
 
When: Tuesday, December 3 and Thursday, December 5 from 12pm – 4pm
Where: YWCA Board Room

Hillside Light Night

You’re invited to join Industrial Strength Fitness for the annual Hillside Light Night Run/Walk. Non-competitive 2, 3, and 3.6 routes will be available along Hillside Avenue’s beautiful Winter decorations. YWCA Members and Non-Members are welcome. Please dress in reflective clothing. Headlamps encouraged and strollers welcome.

When: Thursday, December 12 at 6:30pm
Where: Meet at the Front Entrance of YWCA Central Carolinas

Wellness Seminar: Holiday Portion Control

Avoiding portion distortion can be hard. How can you get portions under control and how does plate size impact portion size? What are the healthy snack alternatives at a holiday party? We’re diving in to all the questions we face when it comes to the holidays and food. Join YWCA and Profile by Sanford for this wellness seminar. Healthy snacks will be provided.

Scuba Santa

Santa isn’t always on his sleigh, sometimes he spends his free time in YWCA’s indoor pool! Get a picture with Scuba Santa on Friday, December 13 at 5pm. Get an underwater photo with Scuba Santa, receive a 4×6 photo and digital copy as well as a picture frame that the whole family can decorate! Children have to complete a swim test to participate. All children unable to complete the swim test must be accompanied by an adult in the water. To complete the swim test all children must swim at least 15 yards unassisted and tread water for 30 seconds.
 
When: Friday, December 13 at 5pm
Where: Indoor Pool
Rate: $10 for YWCA Members and $15 for Non-Members

YDub Tri Club

YWCA's YDub-tri-club team

Have you ever wanted to compete in a triathlon? From first timers to experienced competitors, we offer seasonal group and 1:1 trainings. Led by certified USAT Coach Jody Frazier and her team of coaches, you’ll be led step-by-step through swimming, biking and running drills over a multi-week period. Build friendships with your fellow athletes and feel the pride of crossing the finish line. The session includes a practice triathlon, preview of the race course and an abundance of support from your fellow YDubbers. Check this page seasonally for training and fee information.
