With our pool still closed, YWCA’s Aquatics Manager, Jeff Nerret, wanted to share some skills for swimmers to practice while stuck on land! These exercises are for beginning swimmers. Check out our moves for intermediate and advanced swimmers here!
1. Head In Water
Submerge your head in the water to get used to the sensation of water in your face/nose/ears/eyes.
2. Unassisted Floating
Lay in the bathtub on your back with your chin up and your ears in the water. Stay as relaxed as possible.
3. Bubble Blowing
Try to blow a ping pong ball across the surface of the water. If you don’t have a ping pong ball anything that floats will work.
4. Blow Bubbles With Face Submerged
Once mastered try to see how many times in a row you can blow bubbles for 1 second, come up for air for 1 second, blow bubbles for 1 second, come up for air for 1 second, etc.
