On August 1, nine participants received recognition for their completion of the YWCA’s “Getting Ahead in a Just-Getting’ by World.” During this fifteen series, women better understand what poverty means and they learn tools that help them navigate from survival to stability.
Each woman spoke, and a few women from the previous cohort stopped by to share words of wisdom of how their life had changed for the better since completing the program. Several women had advanced in their positions at local retail stores and had opened their first checking/savings accounts. Throughout the graduation, many women spoke about the support and encouragement they received from fellow participants as well as the YWCA staff.
The program is not only about financial stability, but it encourages women to be confident and resilient. As one graduate said, “No matter how tough the road gets, persistence pays off.”
