YWCA's Affordable Housing Development
A Groundbreaking Opportunity for Good
YWCA Central Carolinas and DreamKey Partners are proud to be transforming the front lawn of our 10-acre property on Park Road into 80 affordable housing units. These units will be reserved for households earning 30% – 60% area median income. They are desperately needed as one solution to Charlotte’s ever-growing affordable housing crisis, which has been intensified by the increase in homelessness throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Watch Kirsten Sikkelee, Senior Project Liaison, Grounds for Change, announce our
affordable housing initiative.
In recent years, it’s become more and more challenging for individuals to find affordable housing. People are moving outside of the city, and they are commuting from far away. They should be able to live in Charlotte if they work in Charlotte."
Kirsten Sikkelee, Senior Project Liaison, Grounds for Change
Originally announced in 2020 with plans to break ground in 2021, “Grounds for Change” faced significant delays due to the effects of the pandemic including inflation and cost escalations, but our dedication to this initiative has persisted. Despite challenges, YWCA Central Carolinas and DreamKey Partners have worked diligently to bring this vision to life, and January 2025’s groundbreaking signifies the start of construction on a brighter future for countless families and individuals. We anticipate that units from the Grounds for Change development will be move-in ready by late 2026.
