YWCA's Affordable Housing Development
A Groundbreaking Opportunity for Good
YWCA Central Carolinas and DreamKey Partners (formerly Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership) are proud to be transforming the front lawn of our 10-acre property on Park Road into 80+ affordable housing units. These units will be reserved for households earning 30% – 60% area median income – between $28,250 and $56,520 for a family of four. They are desperately needed as one solution to Charlotte’s ever-growing affordable housing crisis, which has been intensified by the increase in homelessness throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Watch Kirsten Sikkelee, CEO of YWCA Central Carolinas, announce our
affordable housing initiative.
In recent years, it’s become more and more challenging for individuals to find affordable housing. People are moving outside of the city, and they are commuting from far away. They should be able to live in Charlotte if they work in Charlotte.
Kirsten Sikkelee, YWCA Central Carolinas CEO
In July of 2020, we received the unanimous approval from Charlotte’s City Council for the rezoning of our property. We are currently focusing on fully fleshing out the architectural, landscaping and front facade details. We plan to break ground for this affordable housing development in 2022. And we expect these beautiful new units will be move-in ready for their first tenants in 2025. For more information on what the units will look like, view our Grounds For Change brochure.
