Sheila Ijames, ED. D
Regional Director of Youth Programs
Sheila oversees all eight Youth Learning Centers across Mecklenburg and Union counties and develops partnerships with community agencies including Promising Pages, Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and The Arts Empowerment Project. The greatest joy in her job is visiting the different Learning Centers and watching the children improve in literacy skills through practice using the iReady software via the computer.
Sheila’s undergraduate degree is in Intermediate Education from Winston-Salem State University. She has Master’s degrees in School Administration and Curriculum and Instruction from UNC-Charlotte. Her doctorate is in Educational Leadership from Wingate University. Prior to joining the YWCA, Sheila worked as a Teacher, Academic Facilitator, Assistant Principal, Title I Specialist, Regional Assistant, and Principal for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
For enjoyment, she is either volunteering at her church or weeding in her flower beds at home.
